Setting up your profile is very important. You want to have a page that draws people into your profile and eventually have them clicking on your links. You want to come across as a professional and a person that they might want to meet in real life. This can be very tricky to pull off, but it all starts with the picture.
Your Picture is what they see first. It’s the first impression you make on them, and my mom always told me to make a good first impression. So make sure you have a good picture of you. Now I see some people with a picture of their business logo. You have to ask yourself if you see a picture of a business logo right off the bat, what would you think? I know what I’m going to think, what is this person trying to sell me. Not a very good first impression. On the other hand you might not want a picture of you taking a beer bong from your college days. Use common since and ask yourself when looking at your picture, would I want to work with this person?
After your Picture, the next thing on your profile page people see is the box below your picture. This box gives you a chance to write a little about yourself and put a link in it. This is what mine looks like.
I’m A 25 year old Iraq War Veteran Turned Internet Marketer/Social Media Expert, Who Coaches People To Generate Hundreds Of Leads From WEB 2.0 Sites & Win Online! Come Stay Connected With Me On My Blog. www.WhoIsJohnMarshall.com
Its quick and to the point. It tells them about me and what I do and I have my link right there for them to come check out my blog. Now if you put a sales page link in this box it can work but I like sending people to my blog and then if they want to know more about my business they can find the links for it on my blog. If you don’t have a blog to send people to, I recommend you have a video on the sales page. And you should be in that video. If they see your face in the picture on the Facebook profile and then again in your video on your sales page this could help with your conversions.
After that box is your Information Box. This box allows you to put in some personal information about your self and you can have your websites here also. The most important thing about this box is your websites. I post my blog, twitter, and my sales page websites here. I have found making these websites visibly right on the profile page is good when you send them to other social media and when your sales page has you in the video.
Still going down the left side of the Profile page, you see the next box is your videos and links. I will cover using videos later in the series but, your links are posted in a box under the video box. Your last 3 links you have posted in your status updates will show up in this link box. After that you can put even more apps and features inside Facebook on your profile page. I try not to clutter my page up so I don’t use anything else but, its up to you what goes on your page.
Now we get into a huge debate. How much Personal Information do you put on to your business Facebook. Ok this is going to be all up to you, what do you fell conformable with. Now I will say you want to connected with people and build relationships. So it would be easier if you did put your personal information on your page. Now how much information is all up to you and I’m going to leave it at that.
The biggest box in your personal information is going to be the About Me box. I use this box to tell my story really quick and tell everyone what I do. Try and not make this box to long. People don’t want to read pages about what you love eating on thanksgiving every year. Just tell your story and what you are currently doing in as short as time possible.
To summarize really fast
Good Picture.
Write a quick blurb that draws people in under your photo.
Put your links in the Information Box.
Fill out as much personal information as you feel conformable with.
Keep the About me box short and to the point.
I hope you enjoyed the information and would love to hear you thoughts on the subject of “too much personal information” on your profile. The Next post in this is Marketing Series is Build Your Following.
